High Top

I lived in London for three years. In those years I did a lot of walking and I took a lot of photographs. It was a way of assimilating the city. Street style photos were all the go. Subjects were delighted to pose. All I had to do was say the words “style blog” and back went the shoulders and up with the chin.

I was exactly the same myself. I got stopped a couple of times and I didn’t need coaxing or cajoling.

Cool customers are Londoners but they are not shy.

This lassie’s style is right up my alley. Big 80’s leather jacket, animal print leggings, flat shoes and the top knot top to top it off. Its street. Its sloppy and edgy and  looks cool  because it looks effortless. I like the monochromatic palette that she breaks with her blue over- sized headphones. She obviously knows the rules if she can break them so well.

School of Rock Fashion

6846785742_3601cd4d0c_oLondoner’s know how to pose. Certain parts of the city’s inhabitants are naturals at nonchalance. Shoreditch natives and the herds of tourists it attracts need little in the way of art direction. Point a camera at them and they’ll do the rest.

Back in the day when fag breaks were fag breaks jobbing blog fodder was part of the deal making the set up easier. A point and a nod would suffice for communication purposes. Cool minimalists to the core.

Hats off to this young ‘un for unabashedly ticking all boxes in the rock canon wardrobe and getting away with it!

The Great and The Good

My street style collection is growing bigger, brighter, wilder and bolder. Most of my unusual suspects were snapped in London and Dublin. I have finally broadened my lens to include the male of the species and also managed to catch my very first celebrity! Can you spot him/her?

My first tentative subjects were photographed on Georges St in Dublin back in 2009. This was before I had any knowledge of heavy hitters The SartorialistStyle BubbleThe Style Scout all of whom I now greatly admire. It was around the same time I  had a fledgling impulse to start my blog.

Back then I set my subjects against a very serviceable shop grill backdrop and hastily fumbled with my beloved and sadly departed Canon ixus while trying not to delay too long the flow of pedestrians.  Nowadays I take a more varied approach. It depends on so many factors but the main one is recording a look that  inspires me. I’d like to thank all who were willing and also those who I caught unawares for wearing it so so well.
